What is Hydrocele? / Hydrocele Definition:-

Hydrocele is a common condition of men in which there is accumulation of fluid in the tunica virginals, the sac which surrounds the testicle. Each gland is composed of myriads of coiled tubes in which the sperm cells are produced. It is the function of these cells to fertilize the ovum.

Hydrocele Symptoms Signs:-

The main symptom of Hydrocele is painless, smooth and elastic enlargement of the scrotum. In some cases swelling is so much as to cause a great deal of inconvenience interfering greatly with walking. Consequently it may produce a great deal of pressure upon the testicles and the spermatic vessels causing a detrimental effect upon the generative system. The Hydrocele is translucent. If a bright light is placed upon it in the dark the whole swelling lights up if the swelling become painful, it usually denotes that it has become infected.

Hydrocele Causes Risk Factors:-

The apparent cause of Hydrocele may be a knock or a strain but toxic condition of the system is usually at the root of the matter. This systemic toxicity results from wrong dietary habits, general wrong living and suppressive medical treatment of former diseases. Sometimes gonorrhoel infection, obstruction of the abdominal vein, tuberculosis and dropsy may be the cause of this condition. Hydrocele sometimes exists at birth. In this case swelling is seen when the infant is an upright position and disappears when the infant is laid upon its back. Hydrocele usually disappears by itself in infants.

Hydrocele Home Treatments Remedy Cure:-

Tapping is the method usually resorted to for removal of the fluid in Hydrocele. This, however, does not remove the cause of the trouble but only its effects. The correct way in which the condition can be really dealt with successfully is through constitutional treatment. Such a treatment should aim at removing the underlying toxicity of the system which is at the root of the trouble. The sufferer from Hydrocele should begin with an exclusive fresh fruit diet for seven to ten days. In this regimen, he should have three meals a day of fresh juicy fruits, such as apples, pears, grapes, grape-fruit, oranges, pineapple, peaches, melon or any other juicy fruit in season but no bananas or dried, stewed or tinned fruit, and no other foodstuff whatever. For drinks, lemon water unsweetened or water either hot or cold may be taken.

During this period the bowels should be cleansed daily with a warm water enema. If constipation is habitual, all steps should be taken for its eradication. After all all-fruit diet the patient may adopt the following regimen:

Breakfast: Fresh fruit as obtainable, or grated raw carrot or other raw salad-stuff, prunes or other dried fruits, if desired, and a cup of milk.

Lunch: Steamed vegetables, as obtainable, with either a poached or scrambled egg.

Dinner: A good-sized raw salad, of any suitable vegetable as obtainable, with whole wheat bread and butter, and prunes or other dried fruits as dessert.

You don’t have to be Oprah Winfrey’s gourmet chef or spend a fortune on expensive cookware to prepare food in healthy ways. You can make your favorite dishes without large amounts of fat or salt using basic cooking techniques.

Baking isn’t just for breads and desserts. You can also bake poultry, lean meat, seafood, and vegetables. Baking usually doesn’t require adding fat to the food, although you may need to baste the food to keep it from drying out. Simply place your desired food in a pan or dish and cook either covered or uncovered.

Roasting is like baking, but usually at higher temperatures. You can place your food in a roasting pan or on a baking sheet. When roasting meat, poultry or seafood, put a rack inside the roasting pan which will allow the fat in the food to drip away during cooking. Read more…

In 1942, nutritionist Victor Lindlahr, who was a strong believer in the idea that food controls health, published You Are What You Eat: How to Win and Keep Health with Diet. Although he wasn’t the first to propose the notion, his work appears to be the vehicle that took the phrase “you are what you eat” into public awareness, and as scientists began to learn more about how food affects the body and mind, the idea took on even more merit. Today, we know that a high-fat diet, consumed long term, can lead to problems such as obesity, heart disease, diabetes, and a decline in cognitive ability, to name a few. But a recent study by researchers at Oxford University shows it may only take a few days for fat-laden food to begin wreaking havoc on our health.

To learn more about the short-term effects of a high-fat diet, the researchers conducted an extensive experiment with 32 rats. The rodents were fed a low-fat diet, comprised of 7.5 percent fat, for two months as they trained to complete a challenging maze and to run on a treadmill. The maze consisted of eight different paths with a sweetened condensed milk treat at the end. The goal was for the rats to find the treat without re-entering a corridor where they had already been. Once all the rats had mastered the maze, it was wiped down with alcohol, forcing them to rely on memory rather than their sense of smell. Read more…

The science of sleep

Shakespeare waxed lyrical about it, and not getting enough of it remains a favourite national gripe.

Sleeping woman
The position you go to sleep in may also have health implications

But it is only relatively recently we have started to understand how sleep impacts upon our health, from where we do it to how we do it.

Latest research suggests that those who live under a flight path – or indeed share their bed with a heavy snorer – may suffer from raised blood pressure as a result.

It seems surprising that even when sleeping, our bodies can display such an adverse reaction to noise.

Yet sleep, we have increasingly come to realise, doesn’t mean we turn off for the night when we turn off the light.

Parts of our brain remain incredibly active – and indeed alert to potential dangers in the world outside. They regulate our body accordingly, and if necessary tell us to wake up.

If that sounds bad, pity the dolphin, which always keeps half of its brain awake when asleep so it can continue to swim, come up for air, and of course, avoid predators.Read more…
